reetings from Myrtle
Beach! The weather here is lovely and dry since we arrived April 1st! We will
try and bring some with us on our return. I know how Paul likes warm winds this
time of year.
The club is in excellent hands as the Board, Susan, Paul and Marshall ready everything for that
highly anticipated start.
Your new manager, Alex is already talking to everyone and full of ideas to
improve the member's experience at Westfield.
I look forward to seeing new and old members at our Opening Dinner On May 20th . It will be a great night bidding farewell to Christine, renewing old
friendships and starting new ones.
MANAGER’S NOTES by Alex Coffin

t has been a great start with so many warm welcomes
from the members that I have met. Please drop by the office and let me know if
you have any suggestions and/or concerns. I must say that it has been nice to
start with the golf course in fantastic shape so early. The blankets for the
greens and the unseasonable weather both made a big difference. Some concerns
that will be addressed soon include cleanup on
#4 and #17. Paul also wanted me to mention that we are aware of some early
damage on the greens by a careless golfer and to encourage the power cart users
to stay on the paths whenever possible.
I look forward to the social aspect of the club so I’ll be prepared to
meet members whenever possible. The sign-up for the Mother’s Day brunch and the
Official Opening on May 20th
is going strong. I’m sure a lot of people will want have a chance to
show Christine their appreciation at the dinner. Special evening card playing
sessions may also be in the offering so please contact myself or Susan if
you’re interested.
I want to finish by welcoming back all returning members and thanking
both old and new members on their decision to support the club. New member
packages are available in the office. There may be some added value to your
membership this year in terms of having visiting privileges beyond the annual
visit at Sussex that has been used in the past. However, restrictions will be
in place and any new agreements will be monitored carefully to ensure that your
tee time availability is not adversely affected.

pring weather is back and our golfing activities are now underway. Our
Match Captains Donna Holland and Sarah Wilson have been busy organizing for the
golfing season ahead.
Our attention for the next two weeks will be on our annual Spring Tea and Fashion Show to be held
on Saturday, May 13th at
11:30 a.m. Be sure to reserve your
ticket by calling the Club at 757-2250 and don’t forget to invite your friends
to see the new spring and summer fashions as modeled by our Westfield ladies. I
heard that the ice-cream colours are “hot” this season. The price remains the
same as last year at $15.00 per ticket.
Just a reminder that the date of our first noon Luncheon has been set
for Tuesday May 23rd. I encourage you to invite your friends to
these very popular twice monthly luncheons. The price is $12.00 per person.
Next month’s focus will be on GOLF!
I hope each of you find the time to participate in some activity or scheduled event. The Executive and many other volunteers have committed themselves to seeing that you will have many wonderful golfing opportunities in 2006. Take time to review what is in store and pencil the dates into your calendar and commit yourself to getting involved and enjoying the benefits of your membership. Some of your opportunities in May are found in the Match Captain’s Reports within this newsletter.
I welcome all our
new members and we want you to know that we will work hard to ensure that you
have a positive golfing experience this year.
In the meantime ladies, join us at our………..

he annual Fashion Show and Tea will be held on Saturday, May 13th. Please make reservations at the office, 757-2250.
On Saturday, May 27th at 10:00am we will be holding our annual Brunch & Fun Day. All lady golfers are welcome. It is brunch ($6.50) followed by a nine-hole scramble. It is a fun day and a great way for new members to meet other lady golfers. Sign up sheets will be posted in the ladies locker room. The Brunch & Fun Day will be held rain or shine. If it rains, we will have a putting competition.
Any lady wishing to play with the 18 er’s on Wednesday or Saturday is asked to pick up a Player Profile from the locker room or office. This information is to help set up the Wednesday and Saturday draws, and to get information that will help me through the season. When you fill the form out, it can be
left at the office.
The 18ers will begin play on Wed. May 10th and Sat. May 20th. Sign-up sheets will be on the bulletin board in the ladies locker room. Draws are made 3 days in advance, so sign-up early.
Sign-up sheets for the Moosehead/Alpine Doubles match play will be put up in May. Now is a good time to start looking for a partner.

e are open early and the course is in the
best shape it has ever been for this time of the year. We would like to welcome
all of our returning members’ back as well as the new members.
Jon
Garron and Brett Bodehcon are back in the pro shop this year and are raring to
go. Brett will be attempting to gain entry into the Canadian Professional
Golfers Association this season. Alex Cunningham will be the lead man in the
back shop.
Stock
is slowly coming into the Pro Shop with the early season. If you have any
needs, please let us know. Feel welcome to come in and say hello.
April
24th is the third earliest starting date that we know of. Hopefully
we will have a long season. Golfers tend to want to hit the ball too hard at
beginning of the year. Let the club do the work. You don’t have to hit the ball
hard to get distance. Focus on the back of the ball until you see that it is
gone. You can’t see the ball come off the clubface, so don’t try to look for
it. Listen for it, don’t look for it.

or those of us who have had the opportunity to get in a round or two, you must have been impressed with the condition of the greens for this early in the season. This goes to show the results we can gain through the purchase and use of the tarps.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who gave of their time in the Annual Cleanup. Hopefully you had a chance to socialize as you enjoyed the lunch afterwards.
There will be some work taking place on Number 17 fairway where we will be making a wide depression to allow standing water to drain back into John’s Pond rather than across 17 and Number 10 fairway. We hope this will be of little inconvenience to you. We will also be doing work on Number 4 where we opened drains to run off water during the winter.
You will also probably have noticed new ball washers on Number 5 and 10. These were needed, as the old ones were very ineffective.
I will be away for about a month and hopefully when I return the course will be in perfect playing condition. May you all have a great season and may you see those handicaps continue to drop.
If you have any questions or concerns
while I am away please feel free to contact nay member of the Greens Committee.
These members include Sonja Taylor, Mike Graham, Marshall McMahon, Bob Plume,
Paul Marr and Tim Murray.

Handicap information:
There will be two functioning computers in the lobby
to enter scores hole-by-hole. The RCGA is mandating that this is the
preferred method. You just enter your actual
scores and the system will automatically adjust for equitable stroke
control. By having two computers to
enter scores, this should help to speed things up. It is anticipated that one of the computers will also be set up
with access to our website and Tee Timez system.

chool is quickly coming to an end and I am becoming
very excited for another great golf season. This will be my third year as
Junior Coordinator and I am sure that all of you will have a blast.
Our
season will have its kick-off on Sunday, May 21st at 1:30PM. This
will be our orientation day. All
juniors, new and old, as well as their parents are encouraged to attend. On this day, juniors and parents will be
introduced to several of the staff members, juniors will be able to walk around
as a gallery, for a couple of holes while some members of the professional
staff demonstrate how to act and play while out on the course. This will be
followed by a review of the junior program, and then to end the day off even
better, there will be a delicious barbeque.
Preseason
clinics will start on Tuesday, June 6th. Juniors will have a choice to sign up for the Tuesday or Thursday
class at 5 or 6 P.M. These clinics will be Tuesdays (June 6th, 13th,
20th), or Thursdays (June 8th, 15th, and 22nd).
Think about the day and time you would like, and on orientation day you may
sign up. If you cannot attend
orientation day, sign up sheets will be posted on the junior bulletin bored
afterwards.
If
there are any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at
the office, at 757-2250.
